Typhoon Malakas

Have a look at whats coming up the coast of Japan in the next couple of days.  It has been a very slow typhoon season for the Western Pacific. Right now the storm is rated at a cat 2 but will become a cat 3 late friday night and into Saturday and then turning out into the Pacific as a cat 2. These types of typhoons are great wave makers for Japan and sure to have every surfer in the Neighborhood talking about it in the next couple of days. I could be chasing this storm up and down the 338 Highway for this weekend. I would love to break out my Magic board for the this one.  Sunday looks like the day as it will be overhead and strong offshore winds.  Now its just finding that little place on the coast where the wind, swell and tide all come together.

What could be coming in the next few days.

Harvest Time

Its that time a year again, the nights are getting cooler and fall is finally here. Winter can't come soon enough. I have always wondered how many bags of rice one field produces?

Outdoor Japan Surf Article

A couple of months ago I wrote an article for Outdoor Japan on surfing in Misawa and the surrounding breaks. The article is called "get you fix on Route 338" which is a small  highway running along the east coast of Aomori Prefecture. This originally came in print form but now its all free on the internet for everyone to see. Have a look below and click on this LINK, to read it yourself. Thanks for the support.

Lakes, Camping, Festivals, Onsens, Rice Art, Hakkoda . Not an in particular order. Spent the last couple of days touring around Aomori Prefecture. Finally, some cooler weather in the mountains, it was actually pleasant to camp.  Stoked to get out of town and can't wait for fall and winter.
